Ashley Wilburn is a native of Hagerstown in Maryland. She graduated from North Hagerstown High School where she completed her secondary education. With a deep passion for family law, Ashley's current legal practice is focused on a variety of aspects of family issues. She focuses the majority of her work on divorce cases, alimony disputes divorce property distribution child custody battles, child support arrangements, postnuptial and prenuptial agreements, post-divorce enforcement issues such as step-parent or private party adoptions as well as concerns about child welfare. Ashley has been as a mediator appointed by the court since the year 2019 helping parties to help to resolve their issues without needing court involvement. In addition to mediations that are court-appointed, Ashley also mediates in private cases for people who want to stay clear of the litigation and court process.
After completing her undergraduate studies at Loyola University of Maryland, where she received two bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, Ashley pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. She graduated in 2013 and was ranked among the top 10 students of her class. While at law school, Ashley served as a Note Editor for the prestigious Western New England Law Review which showcased her dedication to legal scholarship and research.
Ashley began her clerkship career after she completed her law degree. She was employed by renowned jurists from Connecticut and Maryland. She was fortunate enough to serve as a law assistant for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson at the Connecticut Appellate Court and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott. In 2014, she returned to Hagerstown, Maryland, to serve as an attorney for the Honorable M. Kenneth Long, Washington County Circuit Court. Ashley joined Poole & Kane P.A. in 2015 as an associate attorney. as an associate attorney. Her main responsibilities at the firm involved representing the Washington County Department of Social Services in cases involving child welfare. Ashley's dedicated efforts played a significant role in helping children who suffered neglect or abuse at the children's parents or caregivers. Her commitment to social justice spanned beyond her legal practice and she was active as an officer of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force, working diligently to increase awareness of human trafficking within the tri-state area.
In 2017, she was a founding member at Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and developed her expertise in family law – custody, divorce and child maintenance as well as guardianships and estate and financial planning – wills, trusts, powers of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxies – and mediation.
Ashley started Wilburn Law Office, LLC, in 2023, with the intention of providing a personalized approach to every client's needs.
